5 Tips for Buying a Long Term Travel Health Insurance

Traveling is one of the best ways to discover something new in life. There are so many places in the world that can tell us fascinating stories about ancient times, lifestyle of different cultures, as well as get us acquainted with variety of national cuisines and customs.

Sometimes, even a week of vacation may be not enough to get all from the trip, especially if there’s more than one destination in your travel list.

When you have everything well planned it’s a pity if something goes wrong in the middle of your trip.

Sometimes, an unexpected flu can spoil your whole vacation. To prevent you from being caught off guard with such problems, you’d better take care of health insurance well in advance.

Here are 5 tips you have to know about travel health insurance, when planning a long term travel:

1. Make sure your health insurance covers all your destinations

If you’re going to have a tour around Europe or visit a couple different countries over the world, you have to be sure that matters concerning your health will be solved any place you go, if it comes to that.

Before buying an insurance make sure it will cover your medical treatment in every country.

Some of the insurance companies offer a worldwide medical coverage, while others may cover only particular countries.

There are also countries that are excluded from worldwide policies. They’re usually considered dangerous for tourists.

2. Amount of coverage

One of the most important things about medical insurance is a coverage limit on your medical expenses. Insurance companies provide different coverage limits.

It goes without saying that more expensive policies will cost you higher amount. But don’t go cheap with your health.

An average coverage provided by the companies is around $100,000. That amount is pretty enough to cover most of the unexpected expenses concerning your health during the trip.

Also, you have to be aware that some companies don’t cover pre-existing conditions (if you have asthma, back pain, diabetes, etc), and some can even refuse coverage due to these conditions.

So be very careful and clarify all the details concerning that matter with your insurer before buying the insurance policy.

3. Build your own policy plan

Today, insurance companies try to do their best to provide you with a great number of services. You can choose between different policy plans they have, and tailor them however you want.

It gives you an opportunity to find the most suitable plan that meets all your needs.

For instance, you may choose from different options to set the area and length of insurance coverage, and discuss cases to extend it.

Look for the companies that offer all that flexibility and take advantage of their unique benefit options.

4. A few travel insurance options to consider

Some companies provide policy plans that look up to different categories of travelers.

For instance, if you have the spirit of a real adventure seeker, and can’t imagine your life without discovering new cultures, then you may consider an annual insurance plan as the most suitable for you.

If you’re a student who’s striving to get most of the fun years of youth and to see as much interesting places as possible, you may think of a student insurance cover.

Moreover, insurance companies sometimes try to attract student with some special offers on very pleasant conditions.

Some of us have a lot of business trips. That’s why insurance companies have something to offer for business ladies as well – a business insurance plan is all you need.

Actually, no matter who you are, always ask your insurer about all offers they have and don’t miss your chance to find the most suitable policy for you.

5. Where to buy a health insurance

Nowadays, it’s not a big deal to find where to buy an insurance policy. If you organize your trip via travel agency, be sure that your travel agent will offer you to buy a policy provided by them.

You may also consider online brokers or your current insurance provider. Anyway, look for the best offers, do Google researches, and choose the most suitable for you.

Hopefully, these little tips will help you find a very good health insurance for long term travels. When it comes to choosing an insurance company, doing your own research is a must.

Remember one more thing – it’s better to have an insurance policy and not to use it during the trip, rather than be stuck in a foreign country thinking where to get money for medical care, if something will happen.

5 Types of Car Insurance Coverage Explained

1. Liability Insurance

Liability insurance covers you in the event you are in a covered car accident and it is determined the accident is a result of your actions. Liability insurance will cover the cost of repairing any property damaged by an accident as well as the medical bills from resulting injuries. Most states have a minimum requirement for the amount of liability insurance coverage that drivers must have. If you can afford it, however, it is usually a good idea to have liability insurance that is above your state’s minimum liability coverage requirement, as it will provide extra protection in the event you are found at fault for an accident, as you are responsible for any claims that exceed your coverage’s upper limit. You wouldn’t want to run the risk of having to pay a large amount of money because your policy limit has been exceeded.

2. Collision Coverage

If there is a covered accident, collision coverage will pay for the repairs to your car. If your car is totaled (where the cost to repair it exceeds the value of the vehicle) in an accident, collision coverage will pay the value of your car. .

If your car is older, it may not be worth carrying collision coverage on it, depending on the value. On the other hand, if you have a more expensive car or one that is relatively new, collision insurance can help get you back to where you were before any damage to your car. Note: If you have a lienholder, this coverage is required.

3. Comprehensive Coverage

What if something happens to your car that is unrelated to a covered accident – weather damage, you hit a deer, your car is stolen – will your insurance company cover the loss? Liability insurance and collision coverage cover accidents, but not these situations. These situations are covered by Comprehensive (other than Collision) coverage.

Comprehensive coverage is one of those things that is great to have if it fits in your budget. Anti-theft and tracking devices on cars can make this coverage slightly more affordable, but carrying this type of insurance can be costly, and may not be necessary, especially if your car is easily replaceable. Note: If you have a lienholder, this coverage is required.

4. Personal Injury Protection

While Comprehensive coverage may be something you don’t need to purchase, Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is something you should. The costs associated from an accident can quickly add up, and in order to cover those costs Personal Injury Protection is available. With this coverage, your medical bills along with those of your passengers will be paid, no matter who is at fault for an accident. Note: This coverage is not available in all states.

5. Uninsured /Underinsured Motorist Protection

While state laws mandate that all drivers should be insured, this is unfortunately not always the case. Another issue that can arise is that while a driver may have liability insurance, many states have relatively low minimum coverage requirements that may not be enough to cover all of the expenses of an accident. So, if someone is legally responsible for damages related to an accident, you won’t receive any payment if they do not have coverage or you will receive less than you need to cover the cost of damages if your damages exceed their coverage amount. This is the type of situation where Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Protection would help with expenses.

Advantages of Medical Insurance

The number of people who choose to take out health insurance is increasing, either as a way to complement their public health or not to depend on it and opt only for private health (although the health offered by the State is also covered). And there is no doubt that there are many advantages offered by health insurance.

As we have already explained in a previous article in which we asked ourselves: What are medical insurance? A medical or health insurance consists of a contract that a person establishes with a health insurance company, through which they purchase a medical plan and the insurer must cover the patient’s medical expenses, in exchange for the patient paying certain periodic amounts.

That is, we have a contract in which what is insured is the health of the person. Therefore, it is the patient who decides the characteristics of this medical insurance and the benefits it offers.

The Main Advantages of Health Insurance

As many specialists, experts and medical professionals in the sector say, the truth is that bad times are running for public health. And it is that the long waiting lists that exist in most of the Autonomous Communities of our country, join the cuts that in Health have been exercised in recent years.

The result has been evident: patients must pay more for medicines and for their medical treatments, and even in certain cases public health care is not covered.

Therefore, whenever you can afford it, it is a very good option to take into account what are the features and benefits offered by health insurance, and above all what are its main advantages:

  • Without waiting lists: although Spanish public health is considered one of the best in the world, one of its most negative aspects are waiting lists (where in some Autonomous Communities they can be endless, being very common for a simple consultation by an articular pain with the traumatologist is not given until 6 months later). However, private medical insurance has the advantage of not having waiting lists, since you have quick access to the medical specialist’s office and a large number of diagnostic tests. If you have waiting lists, do not assume more than a few days or a few weeks.
  • You can choose your medical specialist: another of the main advantages of medical insurance is to offer the possibility to the patient to choose the medical specialist they prefer, within the medical chart available to the insurer. In most cases these consultations occur much faster than with the public health specialist.
  • Almost immediate access to diagnostic tests: the same thing happens as with the choice of the medical specialist, with health insurance it is possible to access a large number of diagnostic tests (which are covered in the insurance). These tests range from routine blood and urine tests to more advanced ones, such as the case of CAT scans.

5  Ways to Reduce The Cost of Home Insurance

As a new owner, I recently had to buy an insurance policy for homeowners. And as a personal finance writer, I tried to take my own advice and “compare prices.”

To be honest, it was a pain, and the rates I was getting on my own were too high. Maybe it would not have been so bad if he was not trying to close a house. In the end, I found an independent insurance agent, and she saved me hundreds of dollars and a lot of headaches.

But I also learned that there were things I could do to help keep my premium low year after year. For example, I had planned to install an ADT security system, which I later learned would reduce our premium.

So, if you’re in the market for a new policy, here are six ways to make sure you get the best possible rate:

1. Make sure you are not insured in excess.

Being insufficiently insured can be a big problem when disaster strikes. But being over-insured means you’re wasting your money. So, the ideal situation is to have the right amount of coverage. So how do you do that?

Review your policy when it is available for renewal every year. Specifically, be sure to check any float, which is an additional insurance for items that are not covered in full in a standard owner’s policy. Examples include things like electronic equipment or expensive equipment, valuable jewelry and works of art. If you no longer own the item or if its value has dropped, cancel or reduce the float.

2. Reconsider your deductible.

A deductible is the amount of money you must pay before your insurance policy begins and pays the claim. And the lower your deductible, the higher your insurance premium. According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), today most insurance companies recommend a deductible of $ 500 or more. But if you can afford to increase your deductible to $ 1,000, you could save up to 25 percent. And, advises the III, do not forget that you can have more than one type of deductible. For example, if you live in a disaster-prone area, such as one prone to windstorms, hail, or earthquakes, your insurance policy may have a separate deductible for specific types of damages.

3. Clean up your credit report.

Like it or not, when it comes to insurance, your credit report is at stake. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) states that insurance companies have a “permissible purpose” of looking at your credit information without your permission. And since insurers have discovered that credit history is a reliable predictor of how risky it is to insure a person, use that information to determine whether or not to offer a policy, as well as how much to charge you for your premium.

Then, in addition to all the other important reasons to control your credit report, doing so can also generate a lower premium on your home insurance, or at least prevent your premium from increasing. And be sure to ask for copies of your credit reports once a year, as you can be sure that the insurers verify it before renewing. For example, a 2007 report from the Arkansas Department of Insurance found that in 2006, a total of 457,982 policies were written or renewed in the state that involved the use of credit as one of the factors that weighed in determining the premium. Of these, 32.3 percent resulted in the reduction of the premium, and 9.2 percent resulted in a higher premium. In the remaining 58.5 percent, credit was a neutral factor.

According to the III, in most states, the insurance company must inform you that your premium is increasing due to the red flags on your credit report. But it is best to check your credit regularly and correct errors quickly to make sure that your registration is always accurate.

4. Make your Fire Marshall home proof against bills.

Fire Marshall Bill was a character of Jim Carrey in the sketch show In Living Color, and his security lessons, which he showed in himself, caused fires, explosions and loss of limbs.

You probably know that you should not throw lighter fluid in a hot pipe, but you may not know about less ridiculous safety measures that could lower your insurance premium. Talk to your agent or insurance representative to find out if you can save money by doing things like:

  • Make your home more resistant to windstorms, such as adding storm windows.
  • Updating your plumbing and electrical systems to reduce the risk of water and fire damage.
  • Increase the security of your home with smoke detectors, anti-theft alarms or locks with locks.

These are not cheap updates, so make sure they lower your premium enough to make it worthwhile and that your upgrades qualify for the discount. For example, an insurer may have a list of qualifying alarm systems. Realistically, expensive upgrades like these are not usually done just to save crazy money on insurance premiums. These are usually things you want to do to make your home safer.

5. Compare every year.

We talked about this before, but really and seriously, you have to shop around if you want to make sure you get a good rate. Ask your network for recommendations and consult the National Association of Insurance Commissioners ( for help finding an insurer in your area. Pay special attention to consumer complaint information, since the price is not the only thing you want to consider when choosing an insurer.

Or find an independent insurance agent, who looks for you. Before finding my agent, my auto and home insurance quotes were in the range of $ 1,000- $ 1,300. Then I used her services and she found a great policy of a reputable company for only $ 700. That’s a serious saving.

6 Types of Auto Insurance Coverage

People in general do not think much about their car insurance coverage. At the very least, there is often a minimum state requirement, and beyond choosing the deductible, most car policy definitions only take a look. But understanding what these specific items cover, the limits and the amount you add to your premium can have a significant impact on how much you pay for your policy.

Even if you are required to have a minimum or all of the types of coverage listed below and can not make any changes, it is always a good idea to know what is in the fine print. Also, once you know what you are really insured for, you can actually identify the areas where you are insured.

After all, you obviously do not want to have more coverage than you need, but you also do not want to be exposed in case of an accident.

Not having the right coverage could have serious consequences.

1. Property Damage Liability (PD): This mandatory coverage (in almost all states) pays for damage caused to another vehicle in the event of an accident for which you are legally responsible. Given the high price of many vehicles and the unknown damage you could have on public properties, it is a good idea to have adequate coverage here.

2. Bodily Injury (BD) Liability: This coverage is very important and covers the payment for damages due to an injury or death in an incident for which you are legally responsible. While this covers medical expenses, it can also be used to pay legal defense costs. We all know how expensive medical assistance and legal representation can be, so once again, this coverage is very important.

3. Medical payment: this coverage is used to pay medical expenses incurred by you and your passengers during an accident regardless of whether or not you are at fault. This coverage is optional in most states with a no-fault law because coverage without fault will pay for these expenses and will often cover things such as lost wages linked to the accident.

4. Coverage of uninsured motorists (UM): there is one thing that you can not control while on the road and is whether other drivers are insured or not. While it is a legal requirement in most states to have car insurance, there are many on the roads that drive without it. This coverage protects you and your passengers in case you are involved in an accident with an uninsured driver.

It usually covers medical expenses, but some states extend this also to vehicle damage.

5. Collision coverage: this coverage is subject to a deductible and covers the damages caused to your own vehicle in a collision. Like homeowners insurance, this coverage is usually required if you have a loan in the vehicle. When observing the collision coverage take into account the real value of the vehicle that is insured. Older used vehicles may have little or no use for collision coverage.

6. Full coverage: in addition to the collision damage, the comprehensive coverage will pay the damages, subject to a deductible, of: theft, acts of nature, fire, vandalism and collisions with animals. Like collision coverage, many lenders will require full coverage on vehicles with a loan.

As you can see, your car policy has much more than meets the eye. It is not as simple as paying a premium for general coverage and a specific deductible. If you observe your own policy, you can also see that some of these numbers seem a bit low.

For example, only $ 100,000 for damages due to injury or death of someone in an accident is practically nothing these days when demand agreements regularly exceed seven figures.

For liability coverage, you will normally see the limits listed in a divided format, such as 100,000 / 200,000 / 50,000. This means that the coverage limits would be:

  • $ 100,000 for injury or death of a person in the accident.
  • $ 200,000 for injuries or death for any number of people in the accident.
  • $ 50,000 for property damage caused to other vehicles or property in the accident.

Keep this in mind when checking your car insurance policy and make sure it is adequately covered by liability. Given the litigious nature of our society, it would be unwise to be insured just to save a couple of dollars on your premium in the case of a car insurance claim. Collision and / or comprehensive coverage is much easier to calculate in terms of how much to buy.

Since this coverage is used to pay for the damage done to your property, the amount of coverage needed is clearer and the deductible you select can be based on the value of the vehicle and how much money you have in an emergency fund to cover the deductible and / or damages.

As with most types of insurance, no one likes to pay. When we do not have the need for insurance, it seems like a waste of money, but a single unexpected event can be devastating for you and your family.

You must be very careful when choosing insurance to ensure not only that you are adequately insured, but to not spend money on more insurance than you need. Being polite with your policies can lead you to make the right decisions to protect yourself and your family, as well as keep so much money in your own pockets as well.

10 Tips For Buying Good Health Insurance

It is increasingly common to have health insurance that complements the health services of the Social Security.

However, there are almost as many insurers and types of insurance as there are people and, therefore, choosing among so many options is not easy.

If you want to hire a new health insurance, take note of these tips to find the one that best suits your needs.

1. What coverage do you need?

To start looking for your insurance, you should first think about some questions such as deciding if you are going to include your family within your policy.

You should also bear in mind that your age will significantly influence the price of your insurance. In fact, from a certain age, it could be impossible to hire you.

2. Choose the modality that best suits you

Usually, insurers offer clients a medical chart with a wide range of specialties, ranging from primary care to hospitalization.

Another option is the so-called free choice, which allows choosing any professional from anywhere in the world.

These specialists are not always part of the company’s medical staff.

The usual in these cases is that you have to pay yourself the invoices from which the company will return a percentage based on your policy.

In addition, there are mixed modalities that combine the previous two although it is a decision to be taken into account as they tend to be much more expensive.

3. What is the copayment?

The copayment is a formula to lower the insurance premium. In exchange for paying something less in your messages, you will have to face part of the cost of certain medical assistance.

In this way, companies ensure that users do not abuse services and, in turn, users who use this insurance less can pay less.

It’s all about making numbers and figuring out what works best!

4. What are the grace periods?

The grace period is the time that elapses since the insured’s discharge, until it can request a series of health services such as interventions or diagnoses.

This must be taken into account in the case of suffering an illness or being pregnant as it may be that after some time you can not benefit from services you need for your situation.

This point is one of the most important when hiring insurance.

5. Value the center and its professionals

In the case of health, it is better to prevent than to cure, so take some time to review the medical chart offered by the insurer.

Check that you have quality professionals and specialists and that you can have at your disposal well-equipped medical centers near your residence.

6. Special coverages

Not all insurances include it, you will have to assess if you are interested in receiving special coverage of oral and psychological services, assisted reproduction or travel assistance abroad.

7. Services with authorization

In almost all companies there are a number of services such as hospitalizations, high-tech diagnostics and prostheses that require prior authorization.

Therefore, it is essential to have an efficient telephone service that can resolve this type of management quickly and know for what services these authorizations are necessary.

8. What are the consequences of using these services frequently?

In some medical insurance premiums may increase from one year to another and one of the reasons may be the frequent use of health services that have been contracted.

For this reason it is very important to be informed about this type of issues since it could be very expensive to renew our insurance.

9. Read the fine print

As always when a service is contracted, it is important to thoroughly review the clauses of the policy you have chosen.

It is important that you have clear the duration of the contract, the payment method, the cancellation deadlines and what you do with any way of contacting a customer service before signing.

10. Save whenever you can

It is important that there is a balance between the coverages and the price of your insurance.

However, whenever you talk about health it seems a little risky to talk about saving, so you can find other advantages when you hire your health insurance.

For example, if you live in Aragón, Baleares or Cantabria and meet a series of conditions, you can deduct between 5 and 15% of the premiums you have paid in your health insurance when making the tax declaration.

In addition to the price, you can also find insurance that will offer other benefits if you hire them.

For example, with the Travel Club Insurance Agency, when you buy your policy you can add many points to transform into trips and gifts.

Tips For Hiring Boat Insurance

You have a boat and you have raised more than once, what would happen if the sails are broken, the engine is damaged or you have a blow against a rock and need towing assistance to the port? Hiring a boat insurance means enjoying the sea and sailing without worrying about what may happen, and with the total peace of mind that any unforeseen event may be covered.
Boat insurance protects you from any accident suffered by you or a third party while you are sailing. This type of insurance is intended for any pleasure craft, whether motor or sailing, for private use or rental, whose purpose is the enjoyment of its owners and users.

As it is a motor vehicle, the hiring of boat insurance is mandatory by law in Spain, as happens with car, truck and motorcycle insurance. Specifically, on pleasure boats, sports and jet skis, which must have the Civil Liability when they go out to sea. The law also includes “floating objects that lack motor and have a length exceeding 6 meters.”
